I Love it Here...

*************************
I just went outside to close up the chicken coop. I've been letting them out in the late afternoon, once their egg laying is done, so they can peck at the fresh grass and bugs. They love turn out time! As the sun sets, they all head back for the coop where they settle in on their roost until morning.

It's just after 9 pm here; the sky is clear and I can count stars forever. It's dark, but I hear Quiet Storm's hoof beats as she gallops across the pasture towards me. The Screamer grunts contentedly from her pen. A couple of the ewes baa from the lower pasture.

I can hear the frogs singing happily from across the valley down in the cow pond. Not nearly so loud and obnoxious as they were during breeding season, they've settled into a sweet lullaby, accompanied by the trickle of Carpenter Creek just beyond the trees. And the air? The air is so fresh, so crisp and clean. Not at all like city air. Out here, you can breath!

I love it here. I can muck manure every day in exchange for nights like this. If City Boy moved our bed outside right now, I'd happily snuggle up with him under the stars...that is, if it weren't for those danged mosquitos! Dang, where did those things come from?! Eeks! They're biting me! Quick! Back to the safety of the house!

Never mind, City Boy. We're sleeping inside.

"A Breathless Moment In Time"

Love this photo Tracey - of the many beautiful ones you take, this is one of my favourite pictures. It's as if time stood still for a moment.

I have no caption for that picture. My creativity has taken a break it seems. But that photo is beautiful!

Could you please refrain from making me even more jealous of that fact that, you are where I want to be? It's making me sick!

Ok, don't stop! I love hearing about it, even if I can't have it!

I think the caption you already gave it is best - "Morning Breath."

No caption because Andrea took mine. =)

Great picture. Where did you take it?

I'm with you on the night time. I love being at home, look forward to going home all day long. Look forward to crawling into bed to warm my toes on my husbands leg. Look forward to waking up in the morning to fix breakfast for my kiddos and doing morning chores in the barn.

We have a good life. We are blessed aren't we?

Okay Tracey, will you please stop taking such great pictures and please stop going on an on about your wonderful glorious little farm....

Okay, wait, never mind, Keep them coming, I LOVE hearing at it all and looking at the pics, even if it totally makes me envious. While I have acreage.. I'm still in the city. Yuck.

And for a caption...

For me, too, there is nothing like country living. It feels pure and clean...I now live in the centre of town. Sometimes I miss the countryside horribly!

Thanks for writing about the beauty of country living!

Don't have a caption, but I love the effect of the breath coming out of their noses.

And you certainly have a lovely place to live. With seeing the stars and hearing all the wonderful sounds of nature.

We aren't really in a big city, but with so much ambient light, it's a wonder we can see stars at all. Everyone has a night light on outside and..... -sigh-

"Daybreak"...

Of course, my other idea is not remotely graceful but it popped into my head and will not go away: "Desert Aerobics". Is it my fault that they look like they're moving in time to some sort of aerobics class?

(I need to stop giggling now.)

How about a funny one (well, at least I'm hoping it's funny).

"Let's get the Hell out of here! There's another school bus on the horizon! I'm sick of this pony ride crap!"

Tracey said...

LOL, Dan! Yes, I'm coughing and choking as I'm reading it. Maybe I ought to have clarified that I'm working on a calendar, meaning it's got to be "Mom" safe =)

Yes, Vicki, we're very blessed! (She says as she ducks from the mosquitos.)

Keep those caption ideas coming! I'm loving the ones that are showing up. It's going to be a difficult choice!

Ohhhh....I want to be there. I love to have horses, chickens, the farm. I haven't read all of it yet. I was so anxious to comment on how beautiful this is.

"Wow you sure came on a long boring drive to take a photo of us!"

OK warning this one is bad, but it's the first thing that came to mind "Marlboro Man's Remuda"
I think "blowing off steam" is the best.
